TROUBLESHOOTING TABLE
Refer to the following troubleshooting table only after the thorough visual inspection, Periodic Brake
Performance Test (PBPT), and Aggressive Stop Test is performed (Ref Fig F6 on page F-9).

Severely worn or damaged
brake parts
Replace all severely worn or
damaged parts
Brake pedal does not return to
proper position
Brake does not automatic
adjuster
Check brake pedal linkage
Check the brake pedal free travel.
Check brake cables
Check brake automatic adjusters
Check pedal pivot
Brake shoes are wet
Check again when shoes are dry
Brake cables damaged or
sticky
Check brake cable and replace if
sticky or damaged
Brake shoes severely worn
Replace severely worn shoes
Brake shoes glazed (slick
glossy surface on shoes)
Rough up the glazed surface. Sand
the shoes with emery cloth. Brake
shoes must have 06" (1.5 mm) min.

System not adjusted properly
Check and adjust per manual
Brake cable(s) loose from
anchor brackets
Check and repair
Stopping distance exceeds

Check that brake cables return at
equal rate - (Indication of dragging
cable)
Brake drum cracked

Unequal braking (Only one
wheel locks while other
continues to rotate)
Brake shoes wet or glazed
