2.3 Residual Risks
Based on the 3D Systems safety risk assessment for the DMP Flex 350. We have identified the following residual risks, for which
the customer should take action as indicated in the column: ‘Preventive or corrective actions’.
2.3.1 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
PPE are required when working with the DMP Flex 350 system and must be available within the facility.
2.3.2 Fumes
During a print task fumes are formed, 3D Systems provided an exhaust system that sucks fumes and leads the fumes to the
process filter. The process filter removes the particles from the fumes and delivers cleaned argon gas back to the process
chamber. The build-up of particles can lead to autoignition, it is mandatory to clean the process chamber before and after each
print task.
2.3.3 Electrical Hazards
ORIGIN
POTENTIAL
CONSEQUENCES DESCRIPTION
PREVENTIVE OR CORRECTIVE ACTIONS
Electrical short
circuit
Electrocution
Water leaks in the electrical
cabinet.
In the case of a leakage of tubes or lines
that hold cool-water, immediately stop the
machine and contact the CSE for corrective
maintenance.
Electrical short
circuit
Fire
Metal powder in the electrical
cabinet leads to short circuit or
fire or explosion.
The electrical cabinet is rated to IP 54,
regulatory inspections are required.
2.3.4 Mechanical Hazards
ORIGIN
POTENTIAL
CONSEQUENCES DESCRIPTION
PREVENTIVE OR CORRECTIVE ACTIONS
Other
Slip, trip or fall
Trip over loose cables
Good housekeeping prevents slips, trips
and falls.
The movement
of the coater in
operator mode
Crush or cut of a
finger or limb
A finger or limb gets crushed:
•
between the coater and
the edges of the process
chamber.
•
between the coater and the
edges of the RPM.
When the PTM is in operator mode and
as the door is open, use the ‘hold-to-run’
button to move the coater at low speed at a
safe distance of the limbs.
Do not move the coater manually.
Slippery soil
Slip, trip or fall
A person slips on loose powder
on the floor.
Good housekeeping prevents slips, trips
and falls.
Argon
Suffocation
Inhalation of large quantities of
argon gas can lead to suffocation
In case of argon leaks, stop the machine,
close the main supply valve, as needed
evacuate the area and contact the CSE.
Regularly inspect the oxygen monitor in the
facility as required by local regulations.
2.3.5 Contact Hazards
The use of certain metal powders can lead to irritation or allergic reactions on the skin, use the PPE as indicated in this user
guide, the Safety Guide and the Facility Guide.
