IP Address
An Internet Protocol address (IP address) is a numerical
label assigned to each device (e.g., computer, printer)
participating in a computer network that uses the Internet
Protocol for communication. An IP address serves two
principal functions: host or network interface identification
and location addressing. The designers of the Internet
Protocol defined an IP address as a 32-bit number and this
system, known as Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4), is still
in use today. Because of the growth of the Internet and the
predicted depletion of available addresses, a new version
of IP (IPv6), using 128 bits for the address, was developed.
IP addresses are usually written and displayed in human-
readable notations, such as 172.16.254.1 (IPv4), and
2001:db8:0:1234:0:567:8:1 (IPv6).
LED
A light-emitting diode (LED) is a two-lead semiconductor
light source. When a suitable voltage is applied to the leads,
electrons release energy in the form of photons – also called
electroluminescence.
MPEG
The Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) is a working
group of authorities that was formed by ISO and IEC
to set standards for audio and video compression and
transmission.
NOAA
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administra
-
tion (NOAA) is an American scientific agency within the
United States Department of Commerce focused on the
conditions of the oceans and the atmosphere. NOAA warns
of dangerous weather, charts seas, guides the use and
protection of ocean and coastal resources, and conducts
research to improve understanding and stewardship of the
environment.
NTP
Network Time Protocol (NTP) is a networking protocol for
clock synchronization between computer systems over
packet-switched, variable-latency data networks. NTP is
intended to synchronize all participating computers to within
a few milliseconds of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
PS/2
The PS/2 connector is a 6-pin mini-DIN connector used for
connecting some keyboards and mice to a PC compatible
computer system.
RCA Connector
Sometimes called a phono connector or Cinch connector, is
a type of electrical connector commonly used to carry audio
and video signals. The name “RCA” derives from the Radio
Corporation of America, which introduced the design by
the early 1940s for internal connection of the pickup to the
chassis in home radio-phonograph consoles.
