7.27.31 ip pim rp-candidate
This command configures the ECN330-switch to advertise itself as a
Rendezvous Point (RP) candidate to the bootstrap router (BSR). Use the
no
form to remove this router as an RP candidate.
Syntax
ip pim rp-candidate vlan <

vlan-id
- Identifier of configured VLAN interface. (Range: 1-4094)
•
group-address
- An IP multicast group address. If a group
address is not specified, the RP is used for all multicast groups.
•
mask
- Subnet mask that is used for the group address.
•
priority
- Priority used by the candidate RP in the election
process. The RP candidate with the largest priority is preferred. If
the priority values are the same, the candidate with the larger IP
address is elected to be the RP. (Range: 0-255; Default: 192)

Command Usage
• When the
ip pim rp-candidate
command is entered, the router
periodically sends PIMv2 messages to the BSR advertising itself as a
candidate RP for the specified group addresses. The IP address of the
designated VLAN is sent as the candidate’s RP address. The BSR
places information about all of the candidate RPs in subsequent
bootstrap messages. The BSR uses the RP-election hash algorithm to
select an active RP for each group range.The election process is
