6 To adjust the clearance screw-out a nut of the adjusting
screw, insert into the clearance a fill gauge and, rotating the
screw with a screw-driver (fig. 56) to install the clearance
0,25…0,30 mm. Holding the screw by a screw-driver tighten
the nut and check up the clearance value. At the correctly ad-
justed clearance the fill gauge by thickness of 0,25 mm should
enter at easy pressing, thickness of 0,30 mm - with effort.

To adjust the valve mechanism clearances of other cylinders
crank the crankshaft in the same direction before complete clos-
ing of the inlet valve of the adjustable cylinder and in addition
for 1/3 revolutions. Adjust clearances as mentioned above (see
t. 6).
The adjustment of clearances in cylinders is recommended to be
carried out according to the firing order. The scheme of num-
bering of cylinders is given in section “Characteristics”.

After ending of clearances adjusting start the engine and
hear its work. The knocks in the valve mechanism should not
be. In case of presence of characteristic knock of valves stop the
engine and repeat adjusting.

Install and fix the cylinder head covers, check up a condition
of gaskets. In a place of joint of covers and heads the oil should
not leak.
CHECKING AND ADJUSTING
OF INJECTION ADVANCE ANGLE
To adjust the fuel injection advance angle there are two hatches
(see fig. 57) on the flywheel housing, and on flywheel in two places the
angles values are put. For the lower indicator 3 these values are exe-
cuted on the flywheel numerically, and for the lateral indicator 4 - in
alphabetic expression, thus, to the letter "A" there corresponds numeri-
cal value 20°; to the letter "
Б
" – 15°; to the letter "
В
" – 10°; to the let-
ter "
Г
" – 5°.
Rotate the engine crankshaft clockwise (if to look from the side
of the fan) till alignment of the marks on the crankshaft pulley and
drive gear cover or on the flywheel with the indicator that appropriate
to the set fuel injection advance angle – 6…7°.
At that the valves in 1-st cylinder should be closed.
