After start-up the engine should work on the revolutions of idle
which are not exceeding 1000 rev/min, but no more than 5 minutes.
THE START-UP OF THE ENGINE FROM AN EXTRANEOUS
SOURCE OF THE ELECTRIC POWER WITH THE CHARACTER-
ISTICS EXCEEDING 24V, 500 A, OR TOTAL CAPACITY OF
STORAGE BATTERIES MORE THAN 270
А
·H IS FORBIDDEN.
THE SWITCHING-ON OF THE STARTER AT THE RUNNING
ENGINE IS INADMISSIBLE.
After start-up warm up the engine to temperature of a coolant
40

C firstly at the speed of the crankshaft no more than 1000 RPM,
then gradually increase the speed up to mid one and begin movement
on the lowered gears.
THE FULL LOAD OF NOT WARMING-UP ENGINE IS INAD-
MISSIBLE.
ENGINE STARTING WITH
ELECTRIC PILOT-FLAME PRE-HEATER
ATTENTION!
IT IS CATEGORICALLY FORBIDDEN TO USE
EXTERNAL SOURCES OF THE ELECTRIC POWER OF IN-
CREASED POWER WHEN STARTING THE ENGINE WITH
THE AID OF PILOT-FLAME PRE-HEATER. PILOT-FLAME
GLOW PLUGS ARE DESIGNED FOR OPERATING VOLTAGE
OF ABOUT 19V. IF THE VOLTAGE IN THE PLUGS EXCEEDS
21V, THEY FAIL SOON.
1
Prepare the engine for starting as stated above. Turn the
governor shut-off lever 5 (fig. 50) into position "B " (Fuel sup-
ply -on), and turn the governor control lever 3 into the mid-
position.
2
Switch the mass of battery and install the running switch
into the first fixed position by key turning.
3
Depress the button of pilot-flame pre-heater switching-on
and keep it pressed during all the time of operation of the de-
vice. While the plugs are heated, the ammeter in the driver's
cabin must show discharge current of about 23
А
.
4
After the signal lamp flashes (roughly in 60-110 seconds af-
ter pressing the button of the pre-heater), switch on the starter.
5
After the engine start and till the steady speed is attained,
the pilot-flame pre-heater's work is admitted, but for no longer
than 1 min. If the engine has not started, repeat starting in the
