USING CONTROL
AND DISPLAY
PAGES
After reading the descriptions on the previous two pages, you have
probably gotten a fair idea of their interdependence. The Control
page is used to configure the data collection parameters of the
detector, while the Display page is used to view the display of data.
NOTE: You cannot download a method from the Control page to the
detector when the data is turned on at the Display page. Likewise, you
cannot display real-time data on the Display page unless the Control
parameters have been downloaded to the detector.
The parameters on the Control page that are downloaded to the
detector determine whether the plots on the Display page will be
intensity scans or absorbance spectra and therefore determine the
units applied to the Y-axis of the plot.
The general procedure for using the Control and Display pages is as
follows:
1.
Specify the parameters listed in the Control page and download
them to the detector.
2.
Go to the Display page and click the Status-On button.
3.
Verify that the detector Status field reads
READY
.
4.
When the detector is ready, click the Data-On button to begin
data collection and view the results.
5.
Adjust the display parameters as desired.
6.
To change parameters, turn the data off on the Display page, go
back to the Control page, make the desired changes, download
the new parameters to the detector, return to the display page,
turn the data on, and adjust the display parameters as desired.
In the following example, the Control and Display pages will be used
to display the holmium oxide absorbance spectrum. Set up the
parameters as shown in Figure 5.6. In the Mode group box, choose
Absorbance units. Select the Scans checkbox. Set the scan to start at
220 nm and end at 800 nm. Monitor 241, 361, and 536 nm as
channels A, B, and C. These three wavelengths are used in the
wavelength calibration program. Then, click on Load To Detector to
send settings to the UV6000LP detector.
