MetaXpress Software Features

Use the MetaXpress software with the ImageXpress Confocal HT.ai system to select standard
acquisition and analysis protocols or to develop custom protocols to fit your acquisition and
analysis needs. The MetaXpress software workflow has two major parts: acquisition and
analysis.

The acquisition workflow involves configuring settings, acquiring images, and storing plate
data in a database. See

Preparing for Acquisition on page 53

and

Configuring Plate

Acquisition Options on page 63

.

The analysis workflow consists of processing, enhancing, and analyzing acquired plate
data. See the

MetaXpress Analysis Guide

Simplified Menu Structure

The ImageXpress Confocal HT.ai system ships with the simplified menu installed. Legacy
installations use the standard menu that displays more top-level menus. All software features
are available from both menu implementations and the instructions in this guide list both paths.
The simplified menu includes a menu map to show where items were once located in the
legacy standard menu.

To use the Menu Map to find the legacy location of features:

1. Click Help > Menu Map to display the Menu Map dialog.

2. Select the Default to Customized Menu option to display the standard menu layout in the

Menu Map dialog.

3. Click the menu path where the software feature was in the standard menu to display the

path to the feature in the simplified menu.

For example, to duplicate an image:

1. From the simplified menu, click Help > Menu Map to display the Menu Map dialog.

2. Select the Default to Customized Menu option. The standard menu path to duplicate an

image is to click the Edit menu and select Duplicate.

3. In the Menu Map dialog, click Edit > Duplicate. The corresponding simplified menu path

displays: -> Edit: Image: Duplicate Image/Plane. This indicates that the simplified menu
path to duplicate an image is to click Edit > Image > Duplicate Image/Plane.

Administrator Tasks

Most of the procedures in this guide are for general users. However, we recommend that you
identify one or more users as advanced users or system administrators. The responsibilities of
the system administrator vary from site to site. Variables include the number of users on the
system, the type of database, and the type of work done. Some MetaXpress software system
administrator tasks include:

Installation overview with a Molecular Devices representative
Post-installation hardware and software tests
Database planning and implementation
Custom user and group settings creation
Maintenance schedules and software updates
