Creating Taskbars
Use Taskbars to access frequently used commands and journals. Each taskbar can have up to
48 buttons in a configuration of rows and columns. You can mix and match journals, commands,
or other taskbars within the same taskbar. Create taskbars that combine commands and
journals that are specific to your experiments.
To create and load a taskbar:
1. In the MetaXpress software, do one of the following to display the Taskbar Editor dialog
and the New Taskbar dialog:
From the simplified menu, click Control > Journal > Taskbars > Create Taskbar.
From the standard menu, click Journal > Taskbars > Create Taskbar.
2. Position them so that you can see both the dialogs at the same time.
3. Drag the edges of the New Taskbar dialog to until the dialog displays the number of rows
and columns for the taskbar.
4. In the New Taskbar dialog, click into a cell to make it active and then drag the right or left
edge to define the width of the buttons in the taskbar.
5. In the Taskbar Editor dialog, select a Category option:
Select Function to add a software function to the taskbar.
Select Journal to add a journal to the taskbar.
Select Taskbar to add a link to another taskbar to the taskbar.
Note: For Journal or Taskbar, the directory names display in square brackets.
Double-click a directory name to display the files in that directory or double-click [..]
to go up one level in the directory structure.
6. Locate the item to add to the taskbar and double-click it to add the item to the active
button in the New Taskbar dialog.

7. Repeat to select a blank button in the New Taskbar dialog then double-click the item in
the list in the Taskbar Editor dialog to add the task to the taskbar.
