About Infrared Communication
The Infrared Communication function allows your FOMA terminal to exchange data such as phonebook entries and
received mail with other FOMA terminals and PCs equipped with infrared communication functions.
●
Pictograms and special characters entered in mail and in phonebook entries can also be correctly sent and received.
When using infrared communication
Follow the precautions listed below when you use infrared communication.
• Set the receiving FOMA terminal ready to receive and
position it no more than 20 cm from the sending FOMA
terminal.
• Place the FOMA terminals on a stable surface, such as a
table, so that the infrared ports are aligned on the same
level.
• Do not move the FOMA terminals until data exchange is
complete.
• The FOMA terminals may not communicate successfully if
they are placed in direct sunlight, directly under a
fluorescent light, or close to other infrared equipment.
Notes on using the Infrared Communication function
You cannot use infrared communications nor store data in the following situations.
• The infrared communication function used in the FOMA terminal conforms to the IrMC1.1 standard and may not be able to
successfully exchange data with phones that do not comply with IrMC1.1. Depending on the type of phone used by the
other party, it may not be possible to exchange some types of data with even where the other phone is IrMC1.1-compliant.
• You cannot exchange UIM phonebook data or SMS.
• Infrared communication is interrupted when any of the following occurs and a message appears asking whether to continue:
・ The receiving FOMA terminal does not receive any data within roughly 30 seconds.
・ The receiving FOMA terminal cannot be detected by the sending FOMA terminal.
If you select “YES”, the FOMA terminal tries to initiate infrared communication once more. To cancel infrared
communication, select “NO”. In this situation, if none of the FOMA terminal’s key are pressed within 30 seconds, infrared
communication is automatically cancelled.
• In the following situations, a message appears saying that a received data entry could not be stored:
・
When bookmarks with the same URL are received
・ When a melody larger than 100 KB is received
・ When JPEG images larger than 1616 dots wide
×
1212 dots high or GIF images larger than 640 dots wide
×
480 dots
high or 480 dots wide
×
640 dots high are received.
・
When progressive JPEG images larger than 640 dots wide
×
480 dots high or 480 dots wide
×
640dots high are
received.

・ When a still image larger than 600 KB* is received
* In some cases, the images are less than 599 KB.
・ When a still image in a format other than JPEG or GIF is received
・ When a movie or i - motion larger than 800 KB is received
・ When a movie in a format other than MP4 is received
・
When a received schedule entry has the same date/time and the same repeat setting (ON or OFF) as an existing entry
・ When a schedule or ToDo list entry is received and the date and time have not been set
• When you receive a large file (an image or movie larger than 10,000 bytes) that is attached to incoming or outgoing mail,
the large file is linked to the mail stored in the Data box. If there is no further storage space available in the Data box, the
attached file is deleted when the mail is stored.
