Loading stock
Using paper
The front and back surfaces of a piece of paper
differ slightly. Therefore, one side is preferred as
the side to image when copying to one side only,
or the side to image first if copying to two sides.
Some ream wrappers mark this preferred printing
side (also called the wire side) with an arrow. If the
arrow is not present, turn the ream over so the
seam is facing up.
Load the paper into Paper Trays 1, 2, 3, and 4
with the preferred printing side down. With the
wrapper seam facing up (illustrated in Figure 3),
remove the paper from the wrapper and load
without turning it.
Load the paper into Paper Tray 5 with the
preferred printing side up. With the seam facing
down, remove the paper from the wrapper and
load it without turning it.
The sheet capacity of the tray varies with the
paper weight that is loaded in the tray. Refer to the
Paper Usage section in this chapter for the
recommended paper stock selections, or refer to
the Recommended Materials List and the Color
Materials Usage Guide.
