Configure POE
Overview
POE is short for Power over Ethernet. It is a technology that helps to
transmit signals and provide DC power for IP-based terminals (such as IP
phones, wireless LAN access node AP and network vidicon) based on the
present Ethernet Cat.5 cabling. In this way, the present cabling security
and normal running of the present network are ensured; the cost is
reduced at greatest degree.
POE is also called Power over VLAN (POL) or Active Ethernet, and
sometimes called Ethernet power supply. It is the latest standard for
using the present standard Ethernet transmission cable to transmit data
and electric power. It keeps the compatibility with the present Ethernet
system and users. IEEE 802.3af is a new standard based on POE.
It is added with the related standards for providing power directly
through network cables based on IEEE 802.3. It is the expansion of the
present Ethernet standards and the first international standard about the
power distribution.
A term related with POE is PD, which is short for Power Device, that is,
the device accepting the power. The power of the device is small.
POE Function Supported By Signamax
Switches
Port 1-8 on Signamax 065-7434 Signamax 24-Port 10/100 L3 Switch
series switch support power supply function. The ports supporting POE
function are called POE ports, which can transmit data as Ethernet
interfaces and provide power for PD devices.
The POE function of Signamax switches provides power through the 4/5
and 7/8 lines of RJ45. Each POE port on Signamax 065-7434 Signamax
24-Port 10/100 L3 Switches supports up to 15.4W power.
