levels. The high level can nest the low level, but they cannot be crossed,
that is, the range covered by the high level is bigger than that covered
by the low level. Use the integers of 0-7 to identify different levels. The
higher the level, the bigger the number.
Maintenance association (MA): It is a set in MD, including some MPs. It is
identified by “MD name + short MA name”. MA serves a VLAN. The
packets sent by the MP in MA are forwarded in the VLAN. The packets
sent by other MPs in the MA are also received in the VLAN. Therefore, MA
is also called service instance (SI).
Maintenance point: It is maintenance association end point (MEP) or
maintenance association intermediate point (MIP). It is configured on the
port and belongs to an MA (service instance). On one port, each MA can
be configured with only one MP.
Maintenance end point: The end point connected to the maintenance can
send and receive any CFM packets. Each MEP is identified by an integer,
which is called MEP ID. MEP is configured on the port, which determines
the MD range.
The MA and MD to which the MEP belongs determine the VALN attributes
and level attributes of the packets by the MEP. According to the location
of MEP in MA, the MEP direction includes the outward and inward. If the
packets in MA are received from the configured ports, the MEP is outward.
Similarly, the outward MEP can only send packets to the network through
the MEP ports. Contrarily, if the packets in MA are received from other
ports, the MEP is inward. The inward MEP cannot send packets to the
network through the MEP ports.
Maintenance intermediate point: It is the intermediate point connected to
the maintenance, which can process and respond some CFM packets
(such as LT packets or the same-level LB packets whose destination
address is the source address), but cannot send packets actively. The MA
and MD determine the VLAN attributes and MD level of the received
packets.
The CFM has the following functions:
•
Connectivity checking function
•
Loopback checking function
•
Link tracking function
