Set up Configuration Environment
Users can use the command-lines provided by switches in the following four ways:
Configure Switch via Configuration Port (Console)
Following are steps to connect with a terminal via a console interface and configure a switch:
1. Chose a terminal
The terminal can be a standard one with the RS-232 serial port or a common PC, the latter
one is commonly used. When configuring from the remote-end, users need two more modems.
2. After ensuring that the router or the terminal, at least one of them is power off, connect the
RS-232 serial port of the terminal with the console port of the switch by cable. The connection
relationships are shown in the figure 1-2:

3. Power up the terminal and configure the communication parameters of the terminal as:
9600bps baud rate, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, software flow control and no parity check. Choose
VT100 as the type of the terminal. If the PC is running Win95/98/2000/NT Operating System,
use the Hyper Terminal program and set the serial port parameters of the HyperTerminal
program according to above parameters. The following example explains the HyperTerminal
program running in Windows NT:
Create connection (figure 1-3)
Choose a name for the connection – mp2600 (it can be any other name). Choose a Windows
