good key. Values that drop below 10% suggest that the set’s background lighting needs
to be improved.
11. Adjust
GAIN
to the maximum value possible — without making the key transparent,
and without bringing in the background. Getting the highest possible gain is essential for
obtaining clean, smooth edges. If you can't get the edges smooth without bringing in the
background (and the clip is above 10%), try reducing the clip slightly — and then
increasing the gain slightly.
12. Turn off
MATTE FILL
(if you turned it on), and select the desired background for your
key on the
PGM
or
BKGD
bus, as appropriate.
13. Ensure that
Suppress Gain
is set to 9.9% and
Suppress Luma
is set to 100%.
Modifying these values may lead to slightly better chroma suppression, but it is
generally not recommended. Feel free to experiment as desired.
14. Adjust
Suppress Clip
to remove any chroma spill that may appear around the key
edges. Setting
Suppress Clip
too high
may
remove too much blue in the foreground
image. Tightening the range of the
Reject
control (e.g., to the 90% range) may
minimize this effect. In general, a
Suppress Clip
value of 100% produces the best
result.
15. As a last step, toggle
Shadow
on (if required, and if the set is of high quality), and
adjust the shadow’s clip, gain, and transparency.
Refer to the section “
” on page 7–29 for details on storing the Chroma Key
settings, on a per-source basis.
Chroma Key Memory
For Chroma Keys, the
KEY MEM
button is used as a memory register for storing
one set
of clip and
gain values for the entire switcher. Unlike Auto Select keys, when you press
CHROMA KEY
, the
KEY MEM
button does
not
come on automatically.
The following rules apply:
•
To store Chroma Key settings, ensure that your key is clipped as desired. Press and
hold
the
CHROMA KEY
button, then press
KEY MEM
. This procedure stores the settings in
memory. They are now available for recall — in any keyer on the switcher.
•
To recall stored settings, ensure that
CHROMA KEY
is selected. Simply press the
KEY
MEM
button. The button lights momentarily, and the stored settings are recalled to the
panel. Note that this function is typically used for initial “starting point” adjustments, or
for returning to a default base setting, after making several adjustments.
Refer to the section “
Ultimatte Insider Operation
” for instructions on using the optional
Ultimatte
Insider
function.
Important
There is no
undo
function. If you recall Chroma Key settings by
pressing
KEY MEM
, you cannot recall the previous values unless you
recall them from a memory register.
