Keying • 7–19
•
Rotate
CLIP
to adjust the key’s luminance or
threshold
level. Only the areas of the
source video that are
higher
than the setting of the threshold will cut a hole in the
background video.
•
Rotate
GAIN
to adjust the key’s gain. The control acts on all keys (except PST
PATT fly keys) and
softens
the key edge, allowing you to adjust the way that the key
blends into the background. For Auto Select (linear) keys, the adjustment ensures
the correct key transparency.
•
Rotate the
GLOW
knob to adjust the “glow level” of the key border, shadow or
outline — ranging from a hard edge to a soft edge.
5. Chroma Key Section
The knobs in the
Chroma Key Section
allow you to adjust chroma key parameters
whenever the
CHROMA KEY
button is active in a keyer. The controls are identical for
all switchers.
•
Rotate
HUE
to select the color that you want to key out — essentially, the color to
be
replaced
by the background video. The knob rotates through the full 360-degree
color spectrum.
•
Rotate
REJECT
to control the
width
of the hue. If you imagine a line that is
centered on the hue (as selected with the
HUE
knob),
REJECT
widens or narrows
the angle surrounding that line, allowing you to
fine tune
the color range that is
keyed out.
•
Rotate
SUPPRESS
to adjust the amount of chroma that is retained in the key’s
foreground. The control works on the selected hue. This control is useful for
eliminating blue or green spill (from a chroma key background) that falls on an
actor’s shoulders or hair.
