Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 module fundamentals

In the data center, the 8672ATME and 8672ATMM modules act as
an edge device for WAN connectivity to connect an Ethernet Routing
Switch 8600 to public or private ATM networks. In the wiring closet, this
module provides interbuilding connections for campus networks where
frame-switched networks support each building.

You can install up to six 8672ATME or 8672ATMM modules in a 8010
10-slot chassis. You can install up to four 8672ATME or 8672ATMM
modules in a 8006 6-slot chassis. You can install up to two 8672ATME or
8672ATMM modules in a 8003 3-slot chassis.

The 8672ATME and 8672ATMM modules have an Online LED that
indicates the overall status for the module. The following table describes
the Online LED.

Color, State

Meaning

Green

The module is receiving power and can receive and transmit traffic.

Amber

The module is initializing and performing diagnostic self-tests.

Off

The module is offline and not receiving power.

The 8672ATME module supports up to 32 000 table entries in its
forwarding engine. The 8672ATMM module is an M module and supports
up to 128 000 table entries in its forwarding engine, which supports large
layer 2 and layer 3 configurations, including Internet routing tables.

The 8672ATME module does not support R or M mode. The 8672ATMM
module supports R and M mode.

8683POSM module

The 8683POSM module provides three bays for POS MDAs. The POS
MDAs provide MAN or WAN support by allowing access to SONET
services in the metropolitan area. You can connect multiple campuses in a
single metropolitan area without compromising performance or increasing
complexity. You can install up to four 8683POSM modules in a 8010
10-slot chassis, four modules in a 8006 6-slot chassis, and two modules in
a 8003 3-slot chassis. The following figure shows the POSM module.
