Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 module fundamentals
•
install the module and then reboot the switch.
•
install the module, and source and save the configuration file (which
avoids a reboot).
SAM and WSM modules
Unseating a Web Switching Module (WSM) when the traffic is
approximately 60% to 70% of line rate may prevent initialization of the
gigabit link. Before you unseat a WSM, stop the traffic and then remove
the module.
If you remove a WSM or Services Acceleration Module (SAM) from an
operating switch and replace it with another module of the same type, the
system restores the configuration.
ATM modules
If you remove an 8672ATME, 8672ATMM, or 8683POSM module from
an operating switch and the module you insert has the same MDAs, the
system saves the configuration.
If you remove an 8672ATME, 8672ATMM, or 8683POSM module from an
operating switch and the module you insert has different MDAs, you must
reconfigure the module. Nortel recommends that you save the original
configuration in a file for future use.
SF/CPU modules
If you replace an 8691 SF/CPU or 8692 SF/CPU module, all the other
modules in the chassis reset and revert to their saved configuration
settings. If you did not save the configuration settings for a module, the
module reverts to factory default settings.
