Operator
Safety
The
operator
should
remember
the
importance
of
safe
operation
when
performing
any
of
the
tasks
in
this
book.
The
operator
should
know
the
location
and
how
to
use
the
switches
and
controls
on
the
3494
Tape
Library
(see
Chapter
2,
″
Controls
and
Indicators
″
).
Safety
Characteristics
The
front
doors
on
the
library
should
not
be
opened
during
normal
operation
because
of
the
moving
components
within
the
library.
The
doors
have
key
locks
to
prevent
the
doors
from
being
opened
inadvertently.
The
3494
Tape
Library
includes
integral
safety
control
circuits
that
detect
whether
the
doors
are
open
or
closed.
When
a
door
is
detected
to
be
open,
the
power
is
removed
from
the
cartridge
accessor
and
the
picker
slowly
descends.
All
host
systems
attached
to
the
tape
subsystems
or
through
the
RS-232
interfaces
associated
with
the
library
are
notified
of
the
condition.
This
gives
the
operator
a
warning
of
a
safety
exposure
and
a
warning
of
potential
unauthorized
access
to
the
cartridges
stored
in
the
library.
End
of
Life
(EOL)
Plan
This
product
is
a
purchased
unit.
Therefore,
it
is
the
sole
responsibility
of
the
purchaser
to
dispose
of
it
in
accordance
with
local
laws
and
regulations
at
the
time
of
disposal.
