OTDR Trace
To see the OTDR trace, tap
TRACE
on the OTDR results screen.
Figure 148 shows an example of an OTDR trace.

The decibel scale shows the level of backscatter. The tester sets
the backscatter level at the start of the trace to approximately
0 dB.
 The measurement cursor. To measure loss and distance, tap
the yellow circle so that
MARK
shows, drag the cursor to the
start of the measurement, tap
MARK
, then drag the cursor to
the end of the measurement. See “How to Use the
Measurement Cursor on the OTDR Trace” on page 363.

When the cursor is on an event, this area shows the event
type. See Table 14 on page 347. The text is green if the event
passed, red if the event failed, or black is there is no limit for
measurement. The pass or fail status is for the wavelength
shown. The event type does not show after you tap
MARK
to
use the measurement cursor.
Note
Sometimes events show as different types at
different wavelengths. This occurs because the
component that causes the event reacts differently
to different wavelengths. For example, an APC
connector can show as a Loss event at 1310 nm, and
a Reflection at 1550 nm. In these situations, the
tester shows a Reflection in the TABLE and
EventMap, and uses the limits for a reflective event.

