Step 1
Temporarily loosen the four bolts that hold the sample changer to the base plate
and back the bolts out about 1/4 inch. This will allow the sample changer to be
moved slightly to facilitate installation of the lead shield parts. Install the Bottom
Ring and the four bottom layer Flat Rings of the lead shield onto the Lead Shield
Support Plate with the annular projections facing upward and the flat quadrant
towards the rear of the instrument. After installing the Bottom Ring and each Flat
Ring, ensure that the holes in the lead parts align with the holes in the support
plate. Temporarily screw the 5/8 in. -11 x 14 in. bolts into the support plate to
ensure proper alignment. Remove the bolts and install the next layer of lead, once
again checking the alignment using the mounting bolts. Refer to Figure 37.
