Appendix A Calibrating the System
18.
Enter the calibration sequence starting procedure. The system will run each
calibration procedure in sequence starting with the procedure specified in this
menu. Normally, a calibration will start with a background procedure and then
proceed to the efficiency measurements. The system will run each calibration
procedure from the one chosen through all the procedures above it. To start
with background, use the arrow keys or the number keys to select “3”
Background
. To only run
α
and
β
efficiency procedures (keeping the
current background for this calibration), use the arrow keys or the number keys
to select “2”
α
and
β
Efficiencies. To disable the automatic execution of this
calibration, use the arrow keys or the number keys to select “1” Off.
19.
Repeat steps 1 - 18 for each calibration or press the
Cancel
key to return to the
Define Calibrations Menu.
Measuring Alpha and Beta Backgrounds and
Efficiencies
Note: Background calibrations should always be performed prior to efficiency
calibrations as efficiency values are background corrected. Background
however may be performed independent of efficiencies.
After all calibration procedures are defined, the system is ready to perform the
calibrations automatically using the
i
Matic sample changer.
1.
Place the “CAL” group plate in the right side stack of the sample carriers in the
sample changer. The “CAL” plate should precede any other group plates in the
stack.
2.
Insert the sample carriers with the sources for all calibrations to be run as
defined previously. To prevent excess searching and restacking of the sample
changer during the calibrations, an “END” plate should be placed immediately
after the last sample carrier that is to be used in any of the enabled calibrations.
3.
Press
Count
to begin.
4.
The system will start the sample changer mechanism and locate the first
sample carrier of the first enabled calibration. The system will execute that
procedure and continue to locate carriers and execute calibration procedures
until all that have been defined are completed. If there are multiple calibration
procedures defined, the system will advance and reverse as necessary to locate
all carriers.
