3.6.1 Functionality
The I/O Terminal Units TU582-S (with spring-type terminals) is specifically designed for use with AC500-S
Safety I/O modules AI581-S, DI581-S and DX581-S.
The safety input/output modules (I/O expansion modules) plug into the I/O Terminal Unit. When properly
seated, they are secured with two mechanical locks. All the electrical connections are made through the Ter-
minal Unit, which allows removal and replacement of the I/O modules without disturbing the wiring at the Ter-
minal Unit.
