4-6 Troubleshooting and Repair
When the system units are manufactured, each system board is identified with the system
unit. If it becomes necessary to replace the system board, the unit model number, serial
number, and system board revision can be restored in the non-volatile RAM (NVRAM) on
the system board. The system board NVRAM is used to store passwords and the asset
management information.
1.
Power off and unplug the system and any external options.
2.
Remove the system unit cover (described later in this section).
3.
Locate SW4 on the system board (see Section 2, Setup). Remove any installed
expansion boards blocking access the switch.
4.
Change switch SW4-4 to the ON position.
5.
Power on the system. Note that a “Password Cleared” message now appears in
the text at the power on screen.
6.
In the directory where ASSETMGT.EXE resides, type
ASSETMGT 1,2,3
at the
prompt and press the
Enter
key. Input the new information pressing
Enter
after
each item.
The numbers in the command line indicate the following:
n
Item number “1” – Sets the model number of the system unit. Input the model
number of the system unit. This input may be up to 13 characters in length.
n
Item number “2” – Sets the serial number of the system unit. Input the serial
number of the system unit. This input may be up to 9 characters in length.
n
Item number “3” – Sets the revision level of the system board. Input the revi-
sion level either silk screened or on a sticker along the edge of component
side of the system board.

To check that the information in the NVRAM is correct type
ASSETMGT 5
and
press the
Enter
key.
Item number “5” displays the asset management information stored in the
NVRAM.
8.
Power off the system unit.
9.
Reset SW4-4 to the OFF position, then replace the system unit cover and periph-
eral cables.
