Controlling Visibility and Graphic Override Settings for Linked Revit Models
1
Click View tab
➤
Graphics panel
➤
Visibility/Graphics.
2
Click the Revit Links tab.
3
Select the linked model or linked model instance to modify.
4
Click the button in the Display Settings column.
The RVT Link Display Settings dialog opens, from which you can access the Basics, Model
Categories, Annotation Categories, and Import Categories tabs. The Design Options tab is also
available if Design Options are used in the linked file.
5
If you selected a linked model instance, select the Override display settings for this instance
check box.
6
From the Basics tab, select one of the following:
■
By Host View.
When you select this option, you cannot override any visibility settings for
the linked model, because the host view governs its appearance.
When the primary linked model is set to By Host View, each copy or instance of the linked
model can still be overridden on an individual basis by checking the box for Override display
settings for this instance. This option appears on the Basics tab when a copy or instance of
a primary linked model is selected in the Visibility/Graphics dialog.
■
By Linked View.
When you select this option, you can choose which project view should
display for the linked model.
The Linked View drop-down list contains all available plan, RCP, section, elevation, and 3D
views from the linked model. The list is dependent on the view you are currently applying
visibility and graphic settings for. For example, if you are in an elevation view, only elevation
views populate the Linked view list. For 3D views, the type of 3D view you are currently
viewing dictates what populates the list (if you are viewing a perspective 3D view in the host
model, only perspective 3D views from the linked model display in the Linked View list, and
the same applies for orthographic 3D views).
NOTE
If the linked model has annotations that you want to display in the project, the annotations
must be in either a plan, RCP, parallel section, or parallel elevation view in the linked model. (If
you select a section or elevation view that is not parallel, view-specific elements, such as annotations
and details, and view specific appearance of non-view specific elements, such as datum extents
and leaders, do not display.) You can then select the By Linked View or Custom option to select
the view to display in the project.
■
Custom.
When you select this option, you can select override settings on all available tabs.
The following options are available on the Basics tab when you select Custom:
■
Linked view: Select a view in the linked model to display.
■
View range: Select view range settings.
■
Phase: Assign the desired phase of the linked model.
■
Phase filter: Assign the desired phase filter for the linked model.
■
Detail level: Specify a detail level for a linked model, or categories within the model.
Selecting By View for a linked model means that the detail level of the target view is used.
■
Discipline: Assign the intended discipline filter.
■
Color Fill: Apply the host model color scheme to rooms and areas in the linked model.
■
Object styles: Control whether the graphical appearance of objects (colors, line weights,
and so on) will be based on the settings in the Object Styles dialog from the host file or
from the linked model.
