5.4 STEERING
5.4.1 Steering
5.4.1.1 The steering system (Fig. 60 «Steering with Screw - ball nut–rack – segment
type» consists of the steering column, steering gear, steering linkage and hydraulic booster.

5.4.1.2 Steering gear with distributor (Fig. 61) comprises screw 7 and ball nut-rack 8,
coupled with segment 1. The semicircular helical grooves on the screw and the nut form the flute
filled with high precision balls 6 when the unit was assembled.
The gear sector 1 is installed in the bearings 18 which are pressed into the collar steps 21
having a number of holes on the end faces for the gearing adjustment. The outer surface axes of
the collar steps 21 are offset relative to the bearings 18 hole axes. The gap between them is equal
to the gap of «e» off-set which lets adjust the gearing of the sector-nut-rod by turning the collar
steps 21.
