5.9.3.3 Rope winding guide. The winch is equipped with a winch rope winding guide
which provides proper rope winding on the drum even if the drum deflects relative to the truck ax-
is at 15º maximum. The rope is fastened on the drum by a clamp and it is paid out backwards on-
ly. The guide roller holder case 22 (Fig. 133) lays over the rope, reciprocating along the lead
screw 6 and along two guide rollers 7. The l.h. and r.h. threaded screw mounted in two bearings is
driven via a chain transmission from the drum shaft through driving 16 and driven 10 sprockets.
Chain tension is adjusted by adjusting shims 2 and 14; the chain sagging is 3-10 mm.
Axial force from lead screw 6 is transferred to the guide roller holder case via slide block
20 of lead screw. The slide block is installed in the guide roller holder case and fixed with cover
21. Guide rollers 19 are installed on the polyamide bushes 18 and rotate on the pins 17 locked by
plate 5.
5.9.3.4 Rules for using the winch. Prior to operating the winch, check that the drive for
engaging and disengaging the winch drum operates correctly; also check that the rope is wound
correctly and is fastened reliably. If the drive is adjusted properly, the length of rod 10 (see Figure
131) between the axes of the holes in the adjusting forks should be 228-232 mm.
If it is difficult to engage the winch drum during a cold season, it is required to warm up
the winch reduction gear in idle running during 3-5 min.
Do not use the winch rope for towing a truck or a trailer or if the rope angles of de-
flection relative to the truck center line exceeds 15º.
To engage the winch:
- set the transfer case and gearbox levers in the neutral position;
- using a 30 mm wrench, set the movable coupling lever in the upper position (“ON”),
when the rope is forced out. For paying out the rope by hand, set the movable coupling lever in its
lower position (“OFF”);
- release the lock and shift the auxiliary power take-off lever forward to the stop;
- engage the first or second gear and unwind (pay out) the rope of the required length;
choose the rope sagging by hand. Before pulling check that at least three or four rope coils are left
on the drum;
