5.3.4 Spare wheel holder
The spare wheel holder on the trucks can be mounted in an upright or horizontal position.
The design of the upright holder is shown in Fig. 59.
The base of the spare wheel holder and tilting bracket are made of rolled profiles welded
to each other.
The spare wheel holder is lifted and lowered down with the help of a worm reduction
gear 11. The spare wheel is fixed in its transportation position by braces 14 and bolts 2. Before
lowering down the spare wheel holder, dismantle the side protective device. When lowering down
the spare wheel, release the fastening of tilting bracket 1 from braces 14, having checked fixation
of rope 13 to the tilting bracket first. Put the detachable handle 12 on the reduction gear shaft.
Turning the handle, lower down the tilting bracket with the spare wheel. When the spare
wheel has been lowered down, remove rope 13 from it, not disconnecting it from tilting bracket 1
without necessity, and roll out the wheel.
The spare wheel should be lifted and fixed for transportation in the reverse order, after
that the rope tensioning is slacked off.
Maintenance of the spare wheel holder lies in checking of the spare wheel holder fixing
to the truck frame and fixation of the wheel in the holder.
