Apply scotch tape for holes which connect the inner hollows with the atmosphere and are
located on the brake valve, the pressure regulator, the trailer brake control valves, the condensate
drain cocks, the sealing pipes behind the cab.
Unload the wheels, by lifting them up to 80-100 mm above the ground, and the truck
suspension, following the procedure described below:
- to unload the front axle wheels (for 4x4 & 6x6 trucks), put the 620 mm high off-loading
supports under the flanges of knuckle ball support 22 of the steering knuckles, as shown in Fig.44;
- to unload the rear axle wheels(for 6x6 trucks), put the 570 mm high off-loading
supports under the supporting bracket of spring 6 according to Fig. 50;
- to unload the rear axle wheels(for 4x4 trucks), put the 670 mm high off-loading
supports under the axle beams next to the supporting bracket of spring 23 according to Fig. 51;
- to unload the rear suspension(for 6x6 trucks), put the 1070 mm high off-loading
supports under the frame side-members in the rear axle area;
- to unload the rear suspension(for 4x4 trucks), put the 1100 mm high off-loading
supports under the frame side-members in the rear axle area;
- to unload the front suspension, put the 220 mm high off-loading supports between the
springs and the frame side-members.
9.3 In-Storage Maintenance of Trucks
Check the tire pressure, condition of the protective coatings and devices; check the truck
for fuel, oil and special fluid leaks every month. Eliminate the detected faults.
Regularly remove detected corrosion products from the painted and unpainted surfaces;
restore damaged paint-and-varnish coatings; upon removing the corrosion from the unpainted
surfaces, coat them with corrosion-preventing grease. Scrape the damaged paint-and-varnish
coatings with the fine-grained or water-proof abrasive paper; after that wipe the surface with a
piece of cloth moistened in clear gasoline or solvent, dry and coat it by two layers of enamel of
the same colour with intervals of 5-10 minutes in summer, lubricate it with the corrosion-
preventing grease in winter.
Engine and gearbox maintenance should be carried out in accordance with the «Engine
Operation Manual» and «Gearbox Operation Manual».
On completing of work reseal the fuel feed system and gas exhaust system, let the air out
from the reservoirs through the condensation drain cocks. Relubricate the ball support surfaces.
When storing the trucks in unheated rooms or under a shed, perform the above-said
checking of the unit’s, component’s and system’s serviceability every quarter.
When storing the truck on the open site or under a shed, and when truck units filled with
the working-and-corrosion-preventing oils, check the serviceability of its service brake drives and
clutch, control drives of gearbox, transfer box and parking brake once every six months by means
of setting the corresponding levers in different positions. In case of the drive rods seizure
(jamming), establish the reason and eliminate it.
After completion of checking, set all the levers in their neutral position.
