The globoid worm pair can operate properly only if the meshing has been adjusted cor-
rectly.
Incorrect adjustment may cause overheating of the worm pair and rapid wear of worm
wheel teeth.
Winch control is shown in Fig. 131.
5.9.3.2 Winch drive. Power taken off the transfer case is transferred via auxiliary power
take-off to the winch reduction gear by three cardan shafts. To protect the winch parts against
overload, safety pin 2 (Figure 132) is fitted in the front cardan shaft, which would be sheared off
if the winch is overloaded.
All cardan shaft joints have of identical design and are unified with those of GAZ-53A
truck.
The intermediate cardan shaft is mounted on two supports. To compensate errors in
mounting,

7 of the front and rear shafts enter the splines provided in the ends of the
intermediate cardan shaft. Lubricant in the splined joints is held by sealing rings 8.
