Chapter 7: Re-Assembly
Touch Screen Panel
Introduction
Follow these steps to re-assemble the upper module as shown in Figure 7-1.
NOTE:
An upside-down touch screen panel will result in a non-responsive touch
screen.
Step Action
1.
Place the upper housing face down with the disk drive slot on the
right.
2.
Hold the touch screen panel so that pin 1 of the cable (noted by the
arrow on the connector) is facing down. Place the touch screen panel
into the impression, with the cable to the left in the channel and the
protective film facing down.
3.
Place the LCD display face down on top of the touch screen panel
with the cables facing to the right. Align the four holes in the corners
of the panel with the threaded inserts in the housing.
4.
Hold the housing bracket above the upper housing, with the face side
down and the disk drive opening on the right.
5.
Pass the LCD display cables through the opening on either end of the
drive opening.
6.
Slide the disk drive into the opening from the bottom, aligning the two
screws protruding from the sides of the drive with the slots in the
opening.
7.
Replace the two pieces of copper cloth tape that are affixed to the
bottom sides of the housing bracket if necessary. See
Replacing
copper cloth tape
instructions above.
NOTE:
These pieces of tape will complete the grounding process
when they make contact with the LCD display.
8.
Insert the bracket into the upper housing. Make sure the touch screen
cable passes through the opening in the bracket.
9.
Secure the bracket in place with four screws. These screws will also
pass through the LCD display. Verify alignment of the disk drive
screw holes before tightening.
10.
Secure the disk drive with two screws on the side of the drive.
11.
Re-attach the two pieces of copper tape to either side of the disk drive.
Ensure that the tape does not contact the small silver plate on the
outside of the disk drive. If tape replacement is necessary follow steps
11 through 14 under
Disk Drive
.
12.
Re-attach the backlight inverter board.
13.
If the touch screen does not respond correctly after re-assembly, the
touch screen may need to be re-calibrated. Refer to
Touch Screen
Panel Calibration
in
Chapter 4
