Maintaining the database Standard 2.0
Overview
Follow the procedures in this chapter to manage your database. Symposium Web
Center Portal Release 4.0 allows you to manage the data in your database using
the following three tools:

Archive and restore — deletes old data from the database and stores it in a
specified location. The data is stored in the archive as a tab delimited flat
file which may be reviewed using standard text editing tools or
spreadsheets. If you need to retrieve the archived information, you can
restore it to the original location in the database. For more information,
refer to “Archiving and restoring Symposium Web Center Portal data” on
page 429.

Backup and restore — backs up the contents of your entire database.
Nortel Networks recommends that you back up your database on a regular
basis to allow you to recover your data in the event of a catastrophic failure
of the system or the hardware. You can also use the backup and restore
utility to perform a migration of your server. For more information, refer to
“Backing up and restoring the Symposium Web Center Portal database” on
page 435.

Purge feature — allows you to permanently remove information that is no
longer required from the database. For more information, refer to “Purging
the database” on page 450.
