./j2sdk-1_4_1_06-linux-i586-rpm.bin
6 Install the rpm in the current directory. The following command installs
j2sdk-1_4_1_06-linux-i586-rpm.bin:
rpm -ivh j2sdk-1_4_1_06-fcs-linux-i586-rpm
7 When you are prompted to confirm that you want to install the file, type y,
and then press Enter.
Note: You can create a symbolic link to shorten the name of the installed
J2SDK.
8 Set the environment variable.
a. Navigate to the /etc/ directory.
b. Use the
gedit
command to open the profile file.
c. Add the following line:
export JAVA_HOME=<directory path to Java installation>
d. Save and close the profile file.
9 On the shell prompt, type the following command to verify that
JAVA_HOME was set correctly:
echo $JAVA_HOME
Result: The path to the Java directory appears.
Note: If the directory in which Java was installed does not appear, you must
correct it before you install Apache2.
Installing Apache2
Apache 2 is a refactoring of the original Apache code and features some changes
in architecture, configuration, and performance. The Apache RPM you must
install is not the one that comes with Redhat Linux 9.0. You must download
Apache2 from the jakarta.apache.org web site.
To install Apache2
1 Ensure that you are logged on to the External Web server as the root user.
2 Download the following RPMs from www.rpmfind.net to the /opt/ directory
before you install Apache:
