System recovery and platform migration
Introduction
Nortel Networks recommends that you have a complete system backup image of
the Symposium Web Center Portal server to provide a fail-safe recovery
mechanism in the event of a loss of server. If this is not available, you can use the
procedures in this section to back up the necessary components to allow the full
recovery of the Symposium Web Center Portal server on to another computer.
To back up a Symposium Web Center Portal system for recovery
1.
Shut down all Symposium Web Center Portal services.
2.
Use the Backup and Restore utility to back up the database. For more
information, refer to “Backing up and restoring the Symposium Web Center
Portal database,” on page 435.
3.
Make a copy of the Master.dat and Sybprocs.dat files.
4.
Make a copy of the e-mail attachments folder.
5.
Export the registry key ..\Nortel Networks\Symposium Web Center Portal
to a file.
To recover a Symposium Web Center Portal system from a system
backup
Note:
You must use the same installation paths in the recovery as you used in the
original installation of Symposium Web Center Portal.
1.
Install Symposium Web Center Portal to the same PEP level as the original
system.
2.
Shut down all Symposium Web Center Portal services.
3.
Copy the attachments folder with the files you copied for the source
computer in the procedure above.
4.
Overwrite Master.dat and Sybprocs.dat with the files you copied for the
source computer in the procedure above.
