Sample Customer Interface and Web Communications component
installation options
Before you install the Sample Customer Interface component, you must install
and configure your web server and your servlet engine. Nortel Networks
recommends that you use Apache Server as your web server and Apache Tomcat
as your servlet engine on Windows 2000 Server. Follow the procedures in this
chapter to install and configure Apache Server and Apache Tomcat for
Symposium Web Center Portal.

You can also use IIS and JRun to configure your Sample Customer
Interface and Web Communications components. For information about
configuring your system with IIS and JRun, refer to Appendix F, “Installing
the External Web Server components with JRun and IIS.”

This guide provides the steps for installing the External Web server
components on both a Windows and Linux operating system. For more
information about installing these components on Linux, refer to Appendix
E, “Installing the External Web server components on Linux.”
To verify your version of DirectX
DirectX is installed as part of Windows 2000; however, you must have DirectX
9.0b or later installed on your computer. If you do not have DirectX 9.0b (or
later) installed, you must upgrade to DirectX 9.0b (or later). Follow the
procedure below to ensure that you have the correct version of DirectX.
1 Log on to the External Web server with your local Administrator user ID.
2 From the Windows Start menu, click Run.
3 In the Open box, type dxdiag.exe .
4 Click OK.
Result: The DirectX Diagnostic Tool window appears.
5 Ensure that the DirectX Version number is 9.0b or later.
6 If the DirectX Version is not 9.0b or later, you must download the latest
version from the Microsoft web site. For more information, refer to your
Microsoft Windows documentation.
