Configuring e-mail for Symposium Web Center Portal
Adding and deleting an e-mail server
Introduction
Follow the procedures in this section to add or delete an e-mail server in your
configuration.
Secondary e-mail servers
If your system cannot log on to a mailbox, Symposium Web Center Portal
attempts to connect to the secondary POP3 host. Likewise, if an SMTP
connection attempt fails, the secondary SMTP host is used. For this to work
properly, you must ensure that the secondary e-mail servers mirror each other
with identical mailbox names, passwords, and SMTP authentication settings.
Each polling iteration of the Email Manager attempts to poll the primary e-mail
server first; if it cannot connect to the server it attempts to connect to the
secondary e-mail server. In this way recovery is automatic. However, in the
event that e-mail is duplicated in each e-mail server and a failure occurs, the
e-mail that was retrieved from the secondary e-mail server is duplicated in the
Symposium Web Center Portal database by the corresponding e-mail in the
primary server when the primary server is restored.
