Purging the database
Introduction
Use the purge feature on the Portal Administrator window to permanently
remove information in the database to free up more disk space. When you purge,
you remove the following information from the closed contacts in the database:
!
the original contact data
!
all responses sent and received relating to the contact
!
all attachments (if any) associated with either of the above
For optimum performance, Nortel Networks recommends that you purge the
system at regular intervals. Remember to back up the database before you purge
the information from it. For more information about backing up the database,
refer to “Backing up and restoring the Symposium Web Center Portal database”
on page 435.
If you want to save attachments associated with closed contacts, you must run
the archive utility. For more information, refer to “Archiving and restoring
Symposium Web Center Portal data” on page 429. You do not have to run the
purge utility after you run the archive utility.
To purge the database
1 From the Windows Start menu, choose Programs
➝
Nortel Networks
➝
Symposium Web Center Portal
➝
Administration Tools
➝
Portal
Administrator.
2 Log on as an Administrator with the User ID “SysAdmin,” the Password
“Nortel,” and the Access Class “Administrator,” and then click OK.
ATTENTION
Use the Dashboard Utility to monitor the database. If the
database runs out of space, Symposium Web Center Portal
may not function properly.
