Nortel Networks Symposium Web Center Portal
Installing and configuring the External Web server
Standard 2.0
Installing the required web server software
Introduction
To host the web pages that form part of the Customer Interface and Web
Communications applications, you must install and configure a web server. This
section explains how to install and configure the Apache Web Server for
Symposium Web Center Portal.
Note:
The procedure in this section describes how to install and configure
Apache Web Server 2.0.49. If you are using a different version of the Apache
Web Server, read the documentation about your version of the application on the
jakarta.apache.org web site.
If you plan to use IIS as your web server, refer to Appendix F, “Installing the
External Web Server components with JRun and IIS.”
Apache Web Server 2.0
Before you begin, you must download Apache Web Server 2.0 from the Apache
web site (http://httpd.apache.org).
Note:
If you are deploying the Customer Interface on a Windows environment
using Fully Qualified Domain Names, you must ensure that your site is
accessible using full host names. Verify your DNS settings and make any
necessary changes to your Apache configuration file (httpd.conf in the
apache\conf folder). The “ServerName” setting in the configuration file allows
you to set the host name. The host name is sent back to clients for your server if
it is different than the Windows host name (for example, you may want to use
“www” instead of the host’s real name). The name you define here must be a
valid DNS name by which your web server is accessible from other clients.
Therefore, if the server is not accessible by using fully qualified host names, you
must use an unqualified host name for the “ServerName” setting. For more
information, consult with your Network Administrator.
To install the Apache Web Server
Follow the procedure below if you are using Apache as your web server.
