Maintaining the database
Standard 2.0
You must establish an archive strategy to maintain a balance of 500 000
transactions in your database. To do so, you must determine the rate at which
you want to remove the transactions from the database by analyzing the arrival
rate of the transactions into the database. For example, if you have 500 000
transactions in your database with an arrival rate of 50 000 transactions per
month, then you must archive the database on a monthly basis to remove the
50 000 oldest transactions (and thus maintain a balance of 500 000 transactions).
The archived data is in tab delimited format, which is suitable for use with
applications such as Excel. You must be aware of the limits of the application to
which you are archiving. For example, Excel has a limit of 65 536 rows of data;
therefore, you can only archive 65 536 contacts or less at one time. If you set
the archive interval at 50 000 contacts, then a busy period (with a transaction
arrival rate that is higher than usual) is unlikely to cross the 65 536 boundary.
When archiving your transactions, Nortel Networks recommends that you use
the Archive all selected contacts option , which allows you to archive all the
transactions for the specified dates. If you choose to archive using selection
criteria (for example, by skillset or by rule), then the process takes significantly
longer because the system must search through all records that meet your
selection criteria before the archiving can take place
