During calibration, a window is displayed to indicate progress. If an error is detected, an error message is
displayed and the operation stops. For information on errors, refer to "
7.1 Error messages
".
Display during calibration
On error detection
The calibration error may indicate a problem with the instrument. Try turning the power on again and
performing the calibration once more. If the error occurs again, please contact the NF Corporation or its
authorized agent.
■ Cautions concerning calibration
The error factors listed below are related to the measurement itself. If any of these factors affect
calibration, they will also affect subsequent measurements because the calibration would be based on
measurement results that contain errors.
• Movement of the signal cables
Do not move the signal cables during calibration. Changes in the attenuation characteristic of the
cable itself caused by movement can produce errors.
• Use of proper cables
Use the calibration cables that are provided with the instrument. Use of cables that are unnecessarily
long or can be easily moved can produce errors that result from the attenuation characteristics of the
cable itself.
• Proximity of hands or body
Do not bring your hands or body near the cables. Doing so can produce floating capacitance or
perturbation noise that affects calibration.
• Sources of noise
Do not use the instrument in the proximity of large noise sources.
The factory calibration results are stored in non-volatile memory that can be read when the instrument is
turned on. However, we recommend performing calibration at the times listed below.
• After the instrument power is turned on and the internal temperature has become stable (after about
30 minutes)
• After a large change in ambient temperature
• Before performing important measurements
