Overlapped commands:

 Commands that allow the execution of subsequent commands while 

instrument operations of the overlapped command are still in progress.

Sequential commands:

 Commands whose operations must finish before the next command is 

executed. 

The

 command suspends the execution of commands until the instrument operations of all previous 

overlapped commands are finished. The

 command is not needed for sequential commands.
