Auxiliary Oil Mist Generator
The IVT includes an auxiliary or spare oil mist generator. The auxiliary unit is provided for use
when maintenance or repair operations are being performed on the main oil mist generator. A
power switch is located in the operator panel for removing electrical power to the auxiliary unit
when it is not in service. The auxiliary unit is equipped with a mist generating head with air / oil
heater (see Mist Generating Head With Air/Oil Heater). A type k thermocouple and a solid state
PID type controller provide heater control. A second type k thermocouple connected to the
controller is used for high temperature alarm and cutout. The fused input AC voltage is connected
to a local terminal strip in a NEMA 12 electrical enclosure. Distribution from the terminal strip is
made to power the controller and heater element. The controller produces a DC voltage output
signal to a solid state non-arcing relay for switching power to the heater element. A second solid
state relay is wired to open the air heater element supply power if the controller detects a high
temperature condition. An alarm indicator on the operator interface of the controller indicates
when an alarm condition has been detected. Acknowledgment of the alarm is required before
heater operation is resumed.
The heater element on the auxiliary unit is interlocked with a low air pressure switch. The heater
is inoperable if a low regulated air pressure condition exists. This ensures that airflow is
established before power is applied to the element. The low air pressure switch is explosion
proof.
