Bulk Oil Reservoir Level Transmitter
The oil level in the bulk supply reservoir is gauged using a level transmitter. The transmitter
consists of a 316SS float that travels the length of the sensor tube. The sensor tube houses a
circuit string of resistors and magnetically operated reed switches. There is a switch and resistor
every ½ inch along the length of the tube. The circuit containing the resistors and switches is the
same length as the measured range.
As the level inside the reservoir varies, the magnetic float moves up or down the tube. When oil is
added to the reservoir the float rises to the top of the stem. The float moves down the stem as oil
is consumed. As the float moves, switches open/close thereby changing the resistance in the
circuit. The two-wire transmitter converts this resistance change to a 4-20 mA current signal
corresponding to fluid level. Resolution of the transmitter is ½ inch (proportional to the spacing of
the sensor switches).
The level transmitter is connected to the IVT controller with a flexible cord. Through the controller,
the level transmitter monitors the level in the bulk oil reservoir and gives a high and low level
alarm.
Mist Pressure Transducer
A solid state pressure transducer is used to monitor the pressure of the mist distribution system.
This variable is referred to as Mist Pressure. The mist pressure transducer is mounted on top of
the bulk supply reservoir. It is a two-wire 4-20 mA output pressure transducer. The mist pressure
transducer is connected to the IVT controller with a flexible cord. Through the controller, the
transducer monitors the mist header pressure and gives a high and low alarm signal.
Bulk Oil Reservoir Oil Temperature Sensor
A type K thermocouple monitors the temperature in the bulk oil reservoir. The thermocouple
connects to the IVT controller with a flexible cord and monitors the oil temperature in the bulk oil
reservoir. High and low alarms are active when the oil temperature is not within a prescribed
operating range.
