Acute warning
If the driver does not respond to the collision
warning, in a speed range of approx. 20 – 156
mph (30 – 250 km/h), attention can be drawn to
the increasing collision hazard through an active
brake intervention in the form of a brief braking
jolt. Additionally, a warning tone is emitted and the
symbol appears in the instrument cluster.
>
Please see chapter "Warning and Information
Messages" on page 256.
If the driver does not respond or does not respond
adequately to a dangerous situation detected by
the system, PAS can provide assistance through
brake interventions.
Automatic braking
If the driver does not respond to the acute warning,
PAS can automatically brake the vehicle with pro-
gressively increasing braking force in a speed
range of 3 – 156 mph (5 – 250 km/h). By reducing
the vehicle speed in the event of an impending col-
lision, the system can help to mitigate the conse-
quences of an accident.
If PAS detects that the driver is not braking suffi-
ciently in the event of an impending collision, it can
increase the brake pressure. Additionally, a warn-
ing tone is emitted and the
symbol appears in
the instrument cluster.
WARNING
Automatic braking by
PAS
Automatic braking can decelerate the vehicle to a
standstill if necessary. Once the vehicle has
reached a standstill, it is not held permanently by
the brake system.
e
Actuate the brake and resume control of the
vehicle.
WARNING
Unsecured or incor-
rectly positioned
objects
Be aware that the PAS system may apply the
brakes unexpectedly. Unsecured or incorrectly
positioned loads can slip and endanger the
occupants.
e
Do not transport items of luggage or objects
unsecured in the vehicle interior.
Information
Automatic braking intervention from PAS can be
aborted by the driver braking, accelerating signifi-
cantly or taking evasive action.
Preventive occupant protection function
Seat belt system optimization
When driving off, the front seat belts are gently
tightened in order to ensure an optimal position
with regard to the occupants. Activation is per-
formed when reaching a driving speed of approx.
20 mph (30 km/h) or when the seat belts are fas-
tened again.
Preconditioning of the seat belt and passen-
ger compartment
If a potentially hazardous accident situation is de-
tected, PAS can initiate measures to prepare for a
possible collision in order to support the effective-
ness of the passive passenger protection sys-
tems. For this purpose, depending on the
situation, the front seat belts are reversibly pre-
tensioned, open windows and (depending on
equipment) the sunroof closed and the adaptive
front seat side bolsters inflated.
Within the system limits, the preventive occupant
protection functions can be activated both during
emergency braking initiated by the driver above a
speed of approx. 20 mph (30 km/h) or through an
automatic brake intervention initiated by the ve-
hicle. As soon as the detected collision hazard has
passed and a stable driving condition is achieved,
the preconditioning measures are ended and ex-
isting seat belt tension released again.
WARNING
Limitations of the pre-
ventive occupant pro-
tection function
The preconditioning measures initiated by PAS can
support the functions of the passive restraint sys-
tem, but cannot overcome the physical limits.
e
The following points must be observed:
– In the case of repeated activation (e.g. in the
context of driver safety training), the belt ten-
sion increases progressively so that it may no
longer be possible to reliably release the belt
tensioning. In this case, unfasten and refasten
the seat belt or deactivate PAS.
– If an accident occurs following a PAS interven-
tion situation, the reversible seat-belt preten-
sioner may be damaged.
Visit an authorized Porsche dealer. Porsche
recommends an authorized Porsche dealer, as
they have trained technicians and the neces-
sary parts and tools.
– In the event of restricted or switched-off PSM
functionality, the preventive PAS occupant pro-
tection functions are deactivated.
– When the passenger airbag is deactivated (e.g.
installed child restraint system), the reversible
belt tensioner functions on the passenger side
are also deactivated.
e
In order to ensure that the window/sunroof PAS
deployment area remains unobstructed in rele-
vant situations and to reduce the danger of a
potential accident, occupants must not place
