Suspension and Leveling
System
PASM with switchable air suspension and leveling
system is an active shock absorber and suspen-
sion adjustment and ride height balancing system.
The adjustable damper system selects the appro-
priate damping level for each wheel according to
the driving situation and driving conditions and
switches the spring rate of the air suspension. The
leveling system automatically balances load
changes and maintains a constant ride height.
Driving safety, agility, and comfort are optimized.
Three different chassis setups can be selected at
the push of a button:
– "Normal"
– "PASM Sport"
– "PASM Sport Plus"
Comfort mode ensures comfortable chassis tun-
ing. The "PASM Sport" chassis setup offers sporty
shock absorber tuning. "PASM Sport Plus" mode
offers particularly sporty shock absorber tuning
(e.g. for race circuit driving). The vehicle is also
lowered by approx. 1.0 in. (25 mm) compared to
Normal Level, thereby switching to Low Level.
Apart from the manual mode selection, the PASM
also adjusts the shock absorber setting toward
more sporty or more comfortable depending on
the driving situation.
Information
– The height of the vehicle is automatically kept
constant when the vehicle is loaded. The indi-
vidual levels can be set only while the engine is
running.
– Frequent level changes can cause the com-
pressor to overheat. In this case, the compres-
sor must cool for several minutes before the
leveling system is fully functional again. The
system automatically adjusts to a selected lev-
el when the compressor cools down.
Information
If vehicles with air suspension are left stationary
for several weeks, the ride height can be reduced.
The vehicle automatically re-adjusts to the correct
ride height when you start the engine. This can
take several minutes, depending on the operating
state. Ground clearance is reduced during this
time.
Selecting PASM mode

1. Switch on ignition.
2. Press button repeatedly.
The button lights up as follows:
– No light indicator comes on when you select
“Normal” (default setting).
– One light indicator comes on when you select
"PASM Sport".
– Two light indicators come on when you select
“PASM Sport Plus”.
In addition, the selected chassis setup is displayed
briefly on the instrument cluster.

Information
The last selected chassis setting remains effective
even after the ignition is switched off.
Information
When the vehicle is stopped, the ride height may
be adjusted automatically in order to balance the
vehicle load.
Adjusting the vehicle level
The vehicle level can be set in the PCM. The last
manually selected chassis setup and level is re-
tained after the ignition is switched off.
