Luggage compartment
Stowing loads
DANGER
Inhalation of toxic ex-
haust gases
Exhaust gases may enter the passenger compart-
ment when the tailgate is open or not closed cor-
rectly and the engine is running.
e
Always keep the tailgate fully closed when the
engine is running.
e
Never drive with the tailgate open.
WARNING
Changed vehicle han-
dling when vehicle is
loaded
Vehicle handling changes depending on the vehicle
load.
e
Adapt your driving style to the changed vehicle
handling.
e
Do not exceed the maximum gross weight or
axle load.
WARNING
Unsecured, incorrectly
secured or incorrectly
positioned loads
An unsecured, incorrectly secured or incorrectly
positioned load can slip out of place and endanger
the vehicle occupants during braking, direction
changes or in accidents.
e
Never transport objects that are not secured
(accidents, braking, corners).
e
Always transport loads in the cargo area, never
in the passenger compartment (e.g. on or in
front of the seats).
e
Support the load against the seat backrests
wherever possible. Always lock the backrests
into place.
e
Only transport heavy objects with the rear seat
backrests upright and engaged.
e
Place the load behind unoccupied seats when-
ever possible.
e
Stow heavy objects as far forward as possible
on the floor, with lightweight objects behind
them.
e
Never load the vehicle higher than the top edge
of the seat backrest.
e
Always protect the passenger compartment
using the luggage compartment partition net.
e
Do not drive with objects on top of the luggage
compartment cover.
e
If the rear seats are not occupied, the backr-
ests can be additionally secured with the seat
belts. Simply cross the outer seat belts and in-
sert each into the opposite buckle.
e
Do not transport heavy objects in open storage
compartments.
e
Always keep the covers of the storage com-
partments closed while driving.
WARNING
Incorrect tire pressure
An incorrect tire pressure can impair driving
safety.
e
Adapt the tire pressure to the load.
e
After changing the tire pressure, you must also
update the setting for the Tire Pressure Moni-
toring System.

NOTICE
Risk of damage to the heating filaments and an-
tenna wires in the rear window.
e
Make sure that the load cannot damage the
heating filaments of the rear window and the TV
antenna in the side window.
The maximum permissible load on the cargo area
floor is 440 lbs (200 kg). The weight must be dis-
tributed evenly over the entire cargo area.
Securing loads with tie-down belts
e
Do not use elastic belts or straps to tie down a
load.
e
Do not route belts and straps over sharp
edges.
e
Use only belts with a tear strength of at least
1500 lbs. (700 kg) and a maximum width of
1 in. (25 mm).
e
Cross the belts over the load.
e
Observe the operating instructions and infor-
mation for the tie-down equipment.
