Seat belts
DANGER
Failure to use seat belts
Seat belts must be worn to offer protection in the
event of an accident. Incorrectly fastened seat
belts can increase the risk of injury in the event of
an accident.
e
All occupants of the vehicle must wear seat
belts for their own safety. Share all the infor-
mation in this section with your passengers.
e
Use appropriate child restraint systems for all
children.
e
Seat belts must be positioned on the body as
to restrain the upper body and lap from sliding
forward. Improperly positioned seat belts can
cause serious personal injury in case of an
accident.
e
The shoulder belt should always rest on your
upper body. The shoulder belt should never be
worn behind your back or under your arm.
e
For maximum effectiveness, the lap belt should
be worn low across the hips.
e
Pregnant women should position the seat belt
as low as possible across the pelvis. Make sure
it is not pressing against the abdomen.
e
Never use one seat belt for two persons at the
same time.
e
Remove any loose, bulky items of clothing that
prevent the seat belt from fitting correctly.
e
Do not lay the seat belt across hard or break-
able objects (glasses, ball-point pens, cell-
phones etc.). Such objects can constitute an
additional risk to occupants’ safety.

Seat belts must not rub against sharp objects
or damage may occur to the belt.

Using damaged seat
belts
Damaged, heavily loaded or worn seat belts do not
offer sufficient protection in the event of an
accident.
The seat-belt pretensioner system can be trig-
gered only once. Triggered seat-belt pretensioner
systems must be replaced.

Check all seat belts regularly for signs of dam-
age to the fabric, and check that the buckle and
anchor points function correctly.

Keep belt buckles free of any obstruction that
may prevent secure locking.
e
Seat belts that are damaged or have been
heavily loaded in an accident must be replaced.
If a seat-belt pretensioner is triggered, it must
also be replaced.
In addition, the anchor points of the belts must
be checked.
Work on the seat-belt pretensioner system may
only be carried out by qualified specialist em-
ployees from an authorized Porsche dealer.
Please visit your authorized Porsche dealer im-
mediately. If the seat belts display damage to
the webbing, fastenings, buckles or retractors,
these should be replaced to ensure safe
operation.

Do not modify or disassemble the seat belts in
your vehicle.
e
The seat belts must be kept clean or the re-
tractors may not work properly.
e
Never bleach or dye seat belts.
e
Do not allow seat belts to retract until they are
completely dry after cleaning or this may cause
damage to the belt.
Seat-belt pretensioners
Whether the seat-belt pretensioner system is trig-
gered or not depends on the severity of the
accident.
The seat belt-pretensioners are triggered in the
event of:
– Front and rear collisions
– Side impacts
– Vehicle rollover
Information
Smoke may be released when the seat-belt pre-
tensioners are triggered. This does not necessa-
rily mean that the vehicle is on fire.
Observe the seat belt warning light
and warning message
An audio-visual warning system is interconnected
with the driver s seat belt. Every time the ignition is
turned on, the gong will sound for about 6 seconds
to remind driver and passengers to buckle up. In
addition, the gong will sound for approximately 90
seconds if vehicle speed exceeds 15 mph (24 km/
h). The safety belt warning light in the instru-
ment cluster will go off as soon as the driver has
buckled up.
