redundant Commands
This chapter shows you how to use the
redundant
commands.
31.1 redundant Commands Overview
The
redundant
commands provide uplink redundancy. Once the uplink ports on the main MSC
have a physical link problem, the system can automatically switch to the standby MSC and let the
standby uplink ports take over uplink traffic handling.
31.2 redundant Commands Summary
The following table lists the
redundant
commands. The
P
column on the right indicates the
administrator privilege level needed to use the command.
Table 367

COMMAND
DESCRIPTION
P
redundant
uplink
enable
Enables uplink port redundancy by checking uplink GbE link
status for physical link problem detection. When the system
finds a physical link problem, a standby MSC becomes the
active MSC and handles the further aggregated traffic
through its uplink connections.
8
disable
Disables uplink port redundancy.
8
primary
<
slot
>|none
This command sets the specified slot as the primary MSC for
handling uplink traffic going to the core network.
none
means
there is no preference on uplink slots.
In some deployments, uplink redundancy is provided by
connections of different throughput capabilities. In such
cases, the link with higher throughput is usually considered
the primary link to the core network. If a redundant switch
takes place and the system switches to the secondary link
with lower throughput, the system switches back to the
primary link if it recovers.
For example an IES-6000 has MSC cards installed in slots 8
and 9. You use this command to set slot 8 as the primary
MSC. Even if slot 9 is currently the active MSC, the system
will have slot 8 become the active MSC when it is available.

Displays the uplink port redundancy settings.
8
switch
Manually switches the active MSC to a standby one.?
