Mode
The R&S FPS is completely remote-controlled; it does not provide a display for
manual measurement control. The miniature display on the front panel of the
R&S
FPS allows only for very basic instrument configuration (see Chapter 4,
"Miniature Display" , on page 37).
However, although the R&S FPS does not have a built-in display for manual mea-
surement control, it is possible to operate it interactively in manual mode using a
graphical user interface on an external monitor or a controller PC.
It is recommended that you use the manual mode initially to get familiar with the
instrument and its functions before using it in pure remote mode. Thus, this sec-
tion describes in detail how to operate the instrument manually using a controller
PC and mouse, or an external monitor, mouse and keyboard. It describes what
kind of information is displayed in the diagram area, how to use the soft front
panel keys and other interface elements, and how to use the Online Help.

Panel)
All tasks necessary to operate the instrument can be performed using the graphi-
cal user interface provided by the soft front panel, a virtual front panel displayed
on the external monitor or the Remote Desktop.
All measurement results are displayed. Additionally, the display provides status
and setting information, allows you to switch between various measurement
tasks, and provides access to all measurement functions.
