FC-16 Storage Subsystem
System Administration Manual
111
Within the Physical Disk page, hot-spares can be assigned or unassigned from physical disks
which are checked as
available
.
Note:
BlueArc requires that at least one disk be marked as a hot spare by
the time the first System Drive is created.
FC-16 Storage Subsystem
The FC-16 storage subsystem supports
Tier 1
(15,000 RPM) and
Tier 2
(10,000 RPM) FC disks,
where each storage enclosure can house up to 16 FC disks. The FC-16 storage enclosure can be
configured to support one of the following configurations:
Storage Controller Enclosure (SCE).
The SCE consists of the FC-16 storage enclosure and, typically, two RAID controllers. Each
RAID controller has dual RAID host ports, and a single cascade port. The cascade port is used to
connect to the LRC’s in the storage expansion enclosure. A single SCE can support up to three
Storage Expansion Enclosures.
Storage Expansion Enclosure (SEE).
The SEE consists of the FC-16 storage enclosure and two LRC modules. Each LRC module has
four interfaces on it that are used to
Loop In
and
Loop Out
of the SEE. The 1
st
SEE connects
directly to the SCE; the rest connect indirectly, through another SEE.
Note:
Different tiers of storage and drive capacities should not be mixed
behind a RAID controller.
Capacity
The storage capacity of the disk.
Type
The type of physical disk in the enclosure, typically either Fibre (Channel) or
SATA.
Span
The label of the Storage Pool, if the physical disk is in use within a Storage
Pool.
Status
The current status of the physical disks within the RAID Rack.
Hot Spare
The box will be checked if it is assigned as a hot spare.
Available
The box will be checked if the physical disk is available.
Offline
The box will be checked if the physical disk is offline.
Manufacturer
The name of the disk manufacturer.
Firmware
The firmware version on the physical disk.
